Travel to Grenoble

Grenoble is a town of 160000 inhabitants (400000 including suburb) located in south east France. Grenoble can be conveniently reached by train, or by plane via Lyon Airport. Alternatively but less conveniently, Geneva or Paris Airports might be used.

From Lyon Airport
  Lyon Airport Lyon Saint-Exupéry (LYS) is located 100km from Grenoble. The bus transfer to and from Grenoble takes one hour (bus time schedule).
The bus company is Satobus. You must buy your ticket before stepping into the bus, at the Satobus desk found in the central area, level 1 (20 one way; 30 round trip).
The bus is parked opposite the desk. Check destination when stepping into the bus as several towns are connected with Satobus.

By train
  Direct train connection link Grenoble with major cities such as Paris (3h), Lyon (1h) and Geneva (2h). Ticket booking is compulsory on high speed train (TGV) connections between Paris and Grenoble. Timetables and online booking available from the French Railway Company SNCF.
Booking opens two months in advance. SNCF offers discounts for early booking, depending on the connection and tickets availability.

From Geneva Airport
  Geneva Airport (GVA) is located 150km from Grenoble. The transfer to and from Grenoble can be achieved by shuttle (advanced booking required) or by train. Check this page or transportation menu on the Geneva Airport Web site.

From Paris Airports
  Paris Airport Roissy Charles de Gaulle (CDG) is connected with Grenoble by only a few daily direct high speed trains (3h30, 35-70 ). Another way consists in going through downtown Paris. From CDG take an express Train (RER B) to Paris, change over in station Châtelet les Halles to station Gare de Lyon using RER A or subway 1 or 14 (7 , 45min). Then take a high speed train to Grenoble (see above).
Paris Airport Orly (ORY) is not connected directly to Grenoble. From Orly take an express Train (Orlyval+RER B) to Paris, change over in station Châtelet les Halles to station Gare de Lyon using RER A or subway 1 or 14 (45min). Then take a high speed train to Grenoble (see above).



Travel in Grenoble

   Public transport is very efficient in Grenoble, consisting in bus and tramway services run by a single company (SEMITAG).

One ticket allows you to use any public transport during one hour. Tickets can be bought: Fares (September 2002) :
